Jackie “Hammer” Johnson

Post by Lem Smith »

I just learned that one of the best friends I’ve ever had passed away during the night. If any of you ever came to any of the steel guitar shows that we had in Fulton, MS you will remember Jackie. He was a friend to everyone he met, and he never met a stranger. Jackie had more fun playing music than words can describe.

He was like the brother I never had. I am heartbroken, to put it mildly. This entire past year, continuing through today, feels like some horrible nightmare that you can’t awaken from. 😢

Lem I feel the same. It's a tragic story that seems to have no end. We have lost so many friends and acquaintances due to this horrible pandemic. May God bless you and your family and all our music friends.

Never knew him other than seeing him at Fulton. Was a very nice person and a good entertainer too
