New Sho-Bud Maverick II Reviews?

Post by Grant Johnson »

Wondering if anyone has a review to share? I’ve been looking for a lightweight portable S-10, such as a GFI. I checked out the Sho-Bud website, and I dig the aesthetics (fender style tuner pan!!!) of the Maverick. The copendent works out. Any reviews of the tone and stability of the changer system? Thx!

On the Sho-Bud Website, it says that the Maverick has great tone! I'd love to try one out! Dawn Jackson told me the new Maverick is her favorite new Sho-Bud!

Hey guys! I’m very new to the pedal steel world. I’m a session musician for electric, acoustic, and bass, and have always wanted a pedal steel. After searching here, Facebook marketplace, and craigslist trying to find a good used pedal steel to start on I saw the post that sho bud would be making a new model of the Maverick. I ended up buying one, and even got serial number 9!

It has been a complete dream, holds tune better than my electrics and has been the perfect guitar to learn on, mostly because it sounds so good out of the box. Everything is built with extreme precision, and you can tell they truly care about the quality of their builds. The tone straight into the board is pure beauty, now I’ve just got to learn how to play it like it deserves to be played. I feel so thankful to be a part of the new history of sho bud, and if you’re on the fence, I can’t recommend getting one stronger. They’re amazing!

Can you tell me how it is setup, pedals and knees? (copedent). I'm interested in one, nothing on the website, and I emailed them, never heard anything back on it. Not sure if it has, or can do, the changes I need, so looking at that first.

The website says the mechanical configuration is 10 strings 3+4, an exact copedant is not listed because that's something you generally discuss when you order a pedal steel. Typically Emmons or Day ABC pedals with Eb either on LKR or RKL according to your preference, RKR lowering string 2 D#>D>C# with a feel-stop midway picking up string 9 D>C#. and the remaining lever available for your favorite change not already included.

It's a very well built guitar and the sound is pure Sho-Bud, so you can't go wrong, especially if it's a learning/auxiliary axe. I gigged with my old Maverick for 16 years before needing more.

Call them up and bug them, tell them what you've told us here. If you have any more difficulty making contact PM me and I will try to stir the pot.

There are some nice photos of the Maverick II on their website. One is a "photo" of the tuning and the pedal and knee-lever set-up. Click on it.

I got a reply this afternoon, they sent the chart. I never saw that on the website. Must have missed it. I have some questions, I'll call them Monday.
Thanks

I really want to try out a Sho-Bud Maverick II. I've heard them in video clips and I think they sound and look awesome! I'm anxious to see how the Maverick II sounds with National Paul Franklin Signature Fingerpicks and Ezzee Slide tone bar. I'd like to know where you can try one out-I've seen pictures of some Sho-Buds in Harry Jackson's garage.
