How many ETS Pedal Steels were made?

Post by Bill McCloskey »

I've just come into possession of a S10 ETS 3x5. For those who don't know, ETS stands for East Texas Steels and was Bud Carter's last design and last guitar company. My understanding is that Bud's partner was killed delivering one of their steels at the Dallas Show. I believe they were showing the guitars for the first time. And then it was gone. I've read estimates that less than 100 were made, but I can't imagine there were even that many made. My guess, based on nothing but the timing , is less than 50 were made. They rarely come up for sale.

This thing is amazing. It is so INCREDIBLY LIGHT! I can pick it up and carry it with one hand easily, like a guitar case. Pulling it out of the case is incredibly easy, it weighs a feather. And it sounds great and really LOUD. It would cut through any band. Maybe that is the aluminum body. Dave Grafe has it at the moment to be set up and oiled so I really haven't put it through its paces yet, but man, talk about a grab and go.

So, any thoughts on how many out there. Any other owners out there want to chime in with your thoughts? Love to learn more about these well engineered machines.

A guy I know here in FL has one. I covet it even though I have a beautiful Williams.

More than I thought. Thanks Wayne.

Just talked to Dave Grafe this morning. He backed all the compensators off because he couldn’t detect any cabinet drop at all. I’m wondering if that is a result of the aluminum frame.

Dave Grafe did another wonderful job setting up my ETS. Plays really well now. Here are some pics. This guitar is SO LIGHT. I can pick it up and carry it with one hand easily and pulling it out of case is a breeze. it sounds fantastic. Couldn't be happier.
